Rosacea – Medical-dermatological Therapy Relieves the Symptoms

Rosacea is one of the most frequent skin diseases in adulthood – and one of the most unpleasant, since it generally occurs on the face and is immediately visible.

Rosacea

  • is persistent
  • occurs in episodes, manifesting in the form of
    • pustules
    • reddened skin
    • superficially dilated capillaries, red face
  • in extreme cases, a bulbous nose develops as the result of severe sebaceous gland proliferation

Women are affected more often than men, and light-skinned persons are affected more often than dark-skinned persons. Couperose is a concomitant or resultant condition. The cause of rosacea has not yet been fully scientifically researched. A genetic predisposition and UV irradiation are considered to be the main triggers, however.

Our specialist physicians in the Dermatology Center at Rosenpark Klinik will analyze your skin and show you ways to treat rosacea systematically.

How is it treated?

The medical-dermatological combined therapy is usually performed over a period of three to four months as follows:

  1. Medical treatment: Local antibiotics in cream form affect vascular sensitivity to reduce inflammation.
  2. External light application: Using the IPL (intense pulsed light) flash lamp, the enlarged capillaries are obliterated.
  3. Laser application: Larger vessels and any leftover smaller veins are destroyed in a targeted and permanent fashion using the Nd:YAG-Laser. The skin remains intact.

Rosenpark Klinik is a private clinic accredited according to section 30 of the Trade Regulation Code [Gewerbeordnung]. We can provide you with an invoice in accordance with the Statutory Scale of Fees for Physicians [GOÄ] which you can submit to your health insurance company. Prior to the treatment, please clarify whether your health insurance company will reimburse the costs in your case.

Is some sort of anesthesia required?

Treatment with the IPL flash lamp is mildly painful. Depending on the scope of the therapy, we can offer you local anesthesia using a cream. For more information about your options for a comfortable, pain-free treatment see the anesthesia section

When can I resume normal daily activities?

Essentially immediately. After the IPL flash lamp treatment, the skin may be reddened with a little swelling for several hours; after the laser treatment, it may be reddened for several days. The redness, which resembles a mild sunburn, can be concealed with cosmetics. During the period of the treatment you should avoid UV light and apply sun protection.
